What is your life purpose? Find it in 20 minutes!

People interested in getting as much as possible from life, will always look after the things that gives their life meaning. I have seen many techniques on how to find ones purpose in life, and here is one developed by Steve Pavlina. It takes only 20 minutes, and it can be useful for all people: both those who believe that their life has a pupose and those who don't. "Here’s what to do: Take out a blank sheet of paper or open up a word processor where you can type (I prefer the latter because it’s faster). Write at the top, “What is my true purpose in life?” Write an answer (any answer) that pops into your head. It doesn’t have to be a complete sentence. A short phrase is fine. Repeat step 3 until you write the answer that makes you cry. This is your purpose." Source:  http://goo.gl/Np0B

The Secret Tobacco Companies Don't Want You to Know: There's Radiation Inside Cigarettes

via gizmodo.com Rat poison. Lighter fluid. Battery acid. Pesticides. And now...radiation. What do they all have in common? They're all rolled into one cancer causing cigarette. What's worse, tobacco companies have known that radiation was inside cigarettes but hid evidence of it for 4 decades. The radioactive substance found in cigarettes is polonium-210, a radioactive material that "emits hazardous particles called alpha particles". Whens smokers inhale, the particles work with the other carcinogens found in cigarettes to pull double duty in damaging the lungs (and creating cancer).

What Do You Do When You Need a Quick Pick-Me-Up?

via lifehacker.com The next time you're feeling a little blue, try singing a song to lift your spirits. That's something that I've often done (without knowing the science behind it), but we're curious, Lifehackers: what do you do to quickly boost your mood? The act of singing, it turns out, releases endorphins, those feel-good brain chemicals. It also brings more oxygen into your blood and increases circulation, helping to relieve stress. And music just soothes the soul. What about you? What are your quick pick-me-ups? Photo by Sam Howzit.

What it means to seek first the kingdom of God

via dawningrealm.org What does it mean to seek the kingdom of God? What will I eat? How will I pay the bills? How will I have a happy marriage? How will I have a successful career? Everyone seems to be preoccupied with these kinds of concerns, but Jesus calmed his disciples by giving them a higher purpose. He told them not to worry about their needs in this world, but to instead seek God's kingdom, having the promise that their heavenly Father would then also meet all those needs...

Film 'Courageous' Breaks Hollywood Mold

via video.foxnews.com Unless you’ve been hiding under an entertainment world rock, you’ve probably heard about one or more of the Sherwood Pictures films: Fireproof, starring Kirk Cameron (in a for-charity performance) as a firefighter who realizes he’s going to have to fight to save his marriage; Facing the Giants, the “little movie that could”—made by a Georgia church’s media team, and picked up by the majors for distribution; or Flywheel, the little locally-played DIY film that got them started. If you haven’t heard of those, well, you’re hearing about their fourth film now: Courageous. It tells the story of five men (four of whom are police officers in, yes, a small Georgia town) who are challenged to become better fathers. Some rise to the challenge; some fall.

If this is true it could change the world as we know it!

via wired.com If it’s true, it will mark the biggest discovery in physics in the past half-century: Elusive, nearly massless subatomic particles called neutrinos appear to travel just faster than light, a team of physicists in Europe reports. If so, the observation would wreck Einstein’s theory of special relativity, which demands that nothing can travel faster than light.

Someday our bodies could ‘talk’ to gadgets

via gigaom.com Your body and your smartphone–or any other electronic device–don’t speak the same language. One uses electrons, the other protons to send information. But scientists at the University of Washington are working on ways to help the two understand each other through a new type of transistor. And this week they’ve announced a breakthrough transistor that uses materials derived from–wait for it–crab shells and squid parts.

True Story

This is a true story of Mother’s Sacrifice during the Japan Earthquake. After the Earthquake had subsided, when the rescuers reached the ruins of a young woman’s house, they saw her dead body through the cracks. But her pose was somehow strange that she knelt on her knees like a person was worshiping; her body was leaning forward, and her two hands were supporting by an object. The collapsed house had crashed her back and her head. With so many difficulties, the leader of the rescuer team put his hand through a narrow gap on the wall to reach the woman’s body. He was hoping that this woman could be still alive. However, the cold and stiff body told him that she had passed away for sure. He and the rest of the team left this house and were going to search the next collapsed building. For some reasons, the team leader was driven by a compelling force to go back to the ruin house of the dead woman. Again, he knelt down and used his had through the narrow cracks to sear...

Facebook and the Inevitable Change ;)

If you ever needed proof that humans are reluctant to change, just slightly adjust their Facebook layout and listen to the complaining. With the recent updates to the Facebook layout, newsfeed, and mobile application I’m sure you’ve seen the same updates I have: “I want the old Facebook back!” “Facebook is now Stalkerbook” “What is wrong with Facebook, why do they keep changing things?” Facebook, like any other service, has to change and adapt to bring the latest product features to its consumers. Are these new features really that bad, or is it just our natural aversion to change? Many years ago when the “News Feed” was first introduced everyone complained and said they wanted to the “old Facebook” back. But the “old Facebook” was a newer version of an even “older Facebook.” Only the people at Harvard can really say they want the “Old Facebook” back. The real...

ACL Fest 2011: How sweet it was

Check "done" on the 10th Austin City Limits Music Festival. This year's three-day orgy of music, weather and chicken cones brought things both rare — rain, Stevie Wonder — and usual — vastly different experiences of the same set — to Zilker Park. Here are the highlights from our team. Peter Mongillo •  Kanye West.  Standout moments included an over-the-top entrance from the center of the crowd in which the rapper rose above Zilker on an elevated platform. A troupe of ballerinas gave the Bud Light stage a touch of Broadway, and supercharged versions of West's older material, including "The Good Life," "Jesus Walks" and "Stronger" were a fine way to end the first day.  Set review •  Phosphorescent.  The Alabama-via-Brooklyn country rock band led by Matthew Houck, whose understated, weary voice coupled with pedal steel guitar on songs including "Mermaid Parade." Any question that the set would lull the crowd t...

New Batteries Made Of Jelly (Yes, Jelly) Could Provide Cheap, Safe Power

Written by John Platt Is your laptop too heavy? Blame your battery - but thankfully, bulky, heavy and potentially dangerous lithium batteries won’t be around forever. Ian Ward, a physics research professor at the University of Leeds in the U.K. has come up with a new polymer gel - in other words, a jelly - that could be used to create a new kind of lithium battery that would be cheaper, lighter and more efficient. “The polymer gel looks like a solid film, but it actually contains about 70 percent liquid electrolyte,” Ward said in a prepared release. “It’s made using the same principles as making a jelly: you add lots of hot water to ‘gelatin’ - in this case there is a polymer and electrolyte mix - and as it cools it sets to form a solid but flexible mass.” According to a news release, the new polymer gel can be formed into a thin, flexible film through a low-cost process. This film, which would lie between a battery’s electrodes, would eliminate one need of traditional lithium batte...

RingShuffle: Say goodbye to stalkers

via ubergizmo.com How many times have you given out your number only to wish that you haven’t? It could be to a sales person at the mall, a guy/girl you’ve met at the bar while drunk, or a friend’s friend who later turned out to be weird. It could be any of those situations and more, but now they can’t seem to stop texting or calling you for various reasons, and short of changing your number, there’s really nothing you can do about it, at least until RingShuffle came along.

The Secret Future of Night Vision Tech

via gizmodo.com Even as an aging tech, night vision is still pretty awesome. But Wired's Noah Shachtman got a rare up-close look at the bleeding edge night vision tech that's in the field and being developed behind closed doors, like über-sensitive digital thermal overlays, maps, mugshots, and footage—all streamed to a single eyepiece. Definitely worth a read. [Wired]
